Marex is welcoming a naval architecture intern on summer placement as Thomas Billet joins the team.

Marex is delighted to welcome Thomas Billet as a intern on a summer placement.

Thomas is currently in his third year at Strathclyde University, where he is studying naval architecture.

He joins us for four months throughout the summer in our main headquarters in Neo House, where he will get an insight into the services we offer across the industries in which we operate.

Marex is a specialist in managing risk in the global energy and maritime sectors. With risk assessment closely linked to the design of vessels, Thomas says he decided a summer internship would be a great way to complement his studies.

He is also hoping to increase his familiarity with the maritime industry as a whole, as well as contribute some of his knowledge gained throughout his studies and use some of the transferrable skills he has already gained.

Managing director Wayne Henderson said: “We are delighted to welcome Thomas to the team and look forward to getting to know him over the summer.

“We will do our best to give him the opportunity between now and September to immerse himself in what we do.

“He will get the chance to discover how the theory from his studies is applied in practice. It will also be really interesting to hear his thoughts and observations on how we work and what we do.

“It is important to invest in the future workforce to help all young people find fulfilling careers. There is a perception that young people don’t see Aberdeen as an attractive location for a career, but Thomas’s enthusiasm and proactivity shows the next generation still view the region as having a bright future.”
