Fleet assurance streamlined from two weeks to six hours

The client and the challenge

An independent oil and gas producer was managing monthly offloading operation, relying on a dedicated pool of three specialised tankers. This complex maritime activity requires a vessel from the pool to transport oil from the offshore facility once a month, within the 500-metre zone of the production installation.

The operation’s success hinged entirely on maintaining continual compliance assurance across all three vessels. Any delay or lapse in clearance risked pushing a tanker out of assurance, causing significant operational and financial disruption.

Previously it had required around two weeks to process the necessary documentation and provide clearance, leaving the operator exposed to high risk and uncertainty. The client needed a solution that was faster, more reliable and rooted in proactive risk monitoring.

The expert solution

The oil and gas producer partnered with Marex, who focused on achieving a state of aligned data readiness across the three-tanker fleet. This approach shifted the focus from reactive, sequential document processing to proactive, continuous status monitoring.

Key to this success was the role of Marex’s data scientist, who implemented a robust data capture and management framework, ensuring that all necessary vessel certification and documentation was captured and instantly accessible. This data automation eliminated the historical bottlenecks that plagued the previous slower process.

The streamlined data pipeline enabled a Marex marine assurance specialist to perform rapid assurance checks. On inserting the date, the output and data now automatically updates based on that associated information. By having all three vessels in a state of data alignment, this only required minimal time to assess and respond to compliance status changes.
