Team members gain maritime internal auditor certification

21st April 2026

Marex marine consultants Donna Van Damme and Victoria Ajinkya have successfully passed the maritime internal auditor course for the ISM, ISPS and MLC standards.

Delivered by Lloyd’s Maritime Institute, this is a comprehensive qualification that equips our team with the specialist skills required to conduct integrated audits in accordance with ISO 9001 standards.

The accredited course focuses on the three pillars of maritime compliance: the International Safety Management (ISM) Code, the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code and the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC).

Through proving their knowledge and understanding across these topics, Donna and Victoria are now qualified to plan, prepare and lead the internal audits and verifications that make sure shipping operations remain safe, secure and compliant with international labour standards.

The training used interactive workshops and case studies to develop practical expertise in identifying risks and resolving non-conformities.

This marks a significant enhancement of our internal resources and further strengthens the service provision offered to our customers.

As Marex continues to prioritise the continual improvement of safety and environmental management systems, having in-house accredited auditors means we remain ahead of external verifications from port state control and national administrations.

Victoria said: “Gaining this qualification gave me a good revision of the requirements for internal audits and allowed me scope to expand my knowledge into reviewing the effectiveness of established policies.”

Donna said: “The course built on existing knowledge gained through STCW (Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping) qualifications as a seafarer and my current experience as a marine consultant.

“We’re now looking at how these new auditing techniques can be rolled out across our existing internal processes.”
