We’ve a double celebration this week with award shortlist announcements from different parts of the UK.
The East of England Energy Group (EEEGR) has named Marex as a finalist in the One to Watch category in their End of Year Awards.
And just a couple of days beforehand, we found out our commercial lead & data analyst Kai Henderson is a Rising Star finalist in the Northern Star Business Awards, organised by Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce.
One to Watch
The EEEGR awards are held in Norwich on 5 December and Marex is shortlisted in the One to Watch category, alongside Stowen and HexCam.
Judges have been looking at how Marex’s vision for the future and its strategic plan to achieve will take the organisation to the next level. Its introduction of new ideas and ability to pivot in the face of industry changes also impressed the judges.
Our managing director Wayne Henderson said: “This recognition from EEEGR means a lot to us.
“When the double whammy of an oil and gas downturn and Covid was biting hard, we could see we needed to pursue more international opportunities and create a balanced business model.
“We could also clearly see that there was a need for the expanding wind energy market to tap into the lessons that have been learned in the decades of offshore work in the UKCS.
“It was around this time we opened our office in Lowestoft, a good base to have as the east of England is home to 44% of the UK’s existing offshore wind farms.
“We are really looking forward to the end of year celebrations next month – and keeping our fingers firmly crossed.”
Rising Star
Meanwhile our 22-year-old commercial lead & data analyst Kai Henderson was named in an impressive field in the Northern Star Rising Star category.
Here, the judges are looking for a “future leader of tomorrow”, evidenced by their work, relationship with others and qualities that will help them flourish.
His fellow finalists are Erica Simona-Parfene from Shot ‘n’ Roll, Grant MacLean from AV One Solutions, Philip Stuart-Barton from Renaissance and Stephanie Gillespie from Bethan Customs Consultancy.
Kai said: “It’s a huge honour to have been shortlisted in the Northern Star Awards. I’ve worked really hard as I study for my degree alongside my day job and this makes it feel worthwhile.
“Marex has really invested in my success since I joined them so I feel it’s as much a recognition for them as it is in my own abilities.”
If you want to find out a bit more about Kai, he is of course the author of our ongoing “Coffee with Kai” series.
