Marine Audits and Inspections
Marex have experience of conducting over 100 OVIDs for our clients on a worldwide basis. Marex Marine Surveyors and Consultants are fully accredited OCIMF OVID and IMCA CMID Inspectors for a variety of craft including PSV, AHTV, Jack-up and semi-sub rigs, Small Workboats, Construction Vessels and Dive support Ships. Marex have a network of experienced and long serving OCIMF accredited OVID inspectors and IMCA accredited CMID inspectors. We are valued for our unbiased stance with respect to vessel owners and operators.
As for any other inspection, our inspectors thoroughly prepare beforehand, for instance using www.equasis.org, (Paris MOU) and Class websites, and with their depth of knowledge, experience, comprehensively follow through to identify findings, and check paper trail evidence.
We offer a world-wide service and can mobilise at short notice.
Marex offer internal ISM, ISPS and MLC audits. Marex master mariners assess the compliance of shipping companies and vessels with ISM and ISPS codes and the effectiveness of procedures implementation. Audits can also be carried out to the client’s format if required.
Marex can provide a full package of continued support to operators for all their term vessels which includes periodical safety visits, navigation audits and field operation audits.
Suitability and On-hire Inspections
Marex carries out marine assurance and vessel suitability inspections for both spot and term hire, as well as project vessels. We use an inspection report which is very in-depth in comparison to some inspection reports and can be tailored to fit clients’ specific requirements. Marex works with MSF, Client and Marex bespoke reports. Vessels inspected include PSV, AHTV, dive support, semi-sub, jack-ups, well stimulation and ocean towage tugs.
Vessel suitability and marine assurance inspections can be carried out by Marex on any type of vessel and are fully tailored to client specific requirements.
DP Trials and FMEAs
Marex carry out FMEA and the associated annual trials for DP1, DP2 and DP3 vessels. Marex has experienced DP auditors who regularly carry out annual DP trials on a variety of vessel types. FMEA updates, rewrites and reviews are carried out as per client requests and each is supported with a full set of proving trials. The trials and FMEA are carried out in accordance with IMCA M 166.
Port Marine Safety Code (PMSC) Compliance
Marex provides support to a variety of harbours around the Scottish Coastline. We act as Designated Person for 10 harbours ranging from large commercial ports to smaller municipal piers. To complement these services, we have developed awareness training for harbour staff and Board members and a toolkit for the provision of the Independent Designated Person support. In addition, we provide high level reviews of MSMS or emergency plans and rewrites or updates if required.
Marex can provide independent audits and Designated Person services under the PMSC to harbours that wish to comply with the Code. This service can include training for duty holders and accident investigation.
Marex provides Master Mariners with the necessary experience to act as client representatives and towmasters for rig moves for both semi-submersible and jack-up rigs, and for both interfield and ocean tows. The Marex representatives support operations at all stages of the rig-move planning from the risk assessments to the marine assurance inspections for the vessels and equipment being used for the tow.
For ocean tows Marex can provide advice on whether a dry tow would be beneficial and if that is the case, we can provide support in choosing the most appropriate heavy lift vessel, as well as providing marine warranty and assurance services for the lift.

Marex provide consultants to carry out ERRV validation trials following the baseline performance standards and procedures detailed in the Oil & Gas UK/ERRVA’s Emergency Response and Rescue Vessel Management Guidelines. In order to facilitate the trials, Marex has a full set of rescue mannequins available which can be delivered to any port in Scotland.

Loadout, transportation and offshore installation of steel platform substructures, decks and topside modules.

Suitability inspection carried out to establish whether vessel is suitable or the purpose of usage and operations such as towing, anchor handling pipelay, cable lay, offshore lifting and installation.

Marex can provide specialist marine accident investigators and expert witnesses on a variety of different subjects and areas of expertise. Marex can provide team leaders or expert support to assist on investigations and the determination of root causes. The provision of a Marex Principal Consultant, to perform the role of expert witness in a London court in the matter of arbitration between a drilling contractor and a shipyard on compliance expectations.
A Marex Principal Consultant spent several weeks on the disaster investigation team for a drill rig support vessel, which capsized, subsequently reviewing the findings.
