RISK ASSESSMENT

Quantitative Risk Assessments

MMASS can produce suitable and sufficient QRA in support of the safety case and to illustrate that major hazard risks are within accepted limits. Other QRA work may also be carried out including Dropped Object Studies.

Qualitative Risk Assessments

MMASS has undertaken numerous qualitative risk assessments for a variety of both occupational and major accident scenarios.  We take full advantage of the experience of our own consultants, and we can facilitate workshops to elicit knowledge from employees of clients.  To manage and document the qualitative risk assessment process, we can make use of the BowTieXP software.

Reliability and Availability Studies

MMASS are licensed operators of RELEX reliability software with which it is possible to model systems and calculate reliability or availability. Typically it can be used to determine availability of safety critical elements.

FMEA/ FMECAs

FMECAs are required for a number of systems on MODUs, such as ballast systems and emergency mooring releases. We can carry out both as well as FMEAs for DP vessels. FMECAs may also be carried out at component level using Relex Reliability software.

IEC 61508 Functional Safety Assessments

MMASS are able to carry out Functional Safety Assessments in accordance with the requirements of IEC 61508. Such assessments include all aspects of the standard including SIL targeting, random hardware failure assessment, ALARP, life cycle activities and functional safety capability.

PFEER Assessments

The PFEER Regulations require the development and implementation of emergency plans and MMASS are able to develop these manuals and advise clients on layout and equipment both for the offshore and onshore Emergency Centres.

SCE Identification

Although the identification of SCEs is part of the verification process we can assist with the provision of tables of SCEs developed directly from the risk assessment process and we are then able to write performance standards for them.
