The Deep Sea Salvage Tug Smitwijs Singapore

DueWest.jpg (41504 bytes)

Photo: Ken Montague

The image was captured on 4th March from the forward end of the semi-submersible Sedco 714 which is being towed from UK to Canada by the Smitwijs Singapore - the vessel featured in the photo. The Sedco 714 is of course attached by 1400 meters of tow wire. The position was 45 deg North, 33 deg West and they had about 1000 miles to go. The S/Singapore is a 13,500 bhp deep sea tug with a bollard pull of 189 tonnes.

We were hopeful of being sent a photograph of the tug on the rig's arrival in Canada but no luck.

In November 2004 we were sent this picture of the tug by Maurice Scholten
