A few years ago no-one in
Europe knew much about Seacor, apart from the fact that they were
ship-owners. Now we know them as large ship-owners. The have purchased
both Smit-Lloyd and Stirling and operate a fleet of over 20 ships in the
US Gulf. They also own the former French company Fish. It is sometimes
difficult to identify the fleet, because, in a manner similar to Tidewater
they do not bother to change the names of the vessels.
In February 2005 they sold their Uk based
fleet to Havila - though retained ownership of Boston Putford, now their
only representation in the UK. Seacor
are known in America for their innovative approach to deepwater
anchor-handling and Milt Rose their President gave a paper at the 1999
Offshore Support Vessel conference in Southampton on that topic.
