Ian McDougall
Managing Director
Ian McDougall is an experienced Master Mariner with an extensive range of skills and experience. He served on a variety of vessels engaged in worldwide trade before entering the offshore industry where he spent nine years on anchor-handlers, PSVs and diving vessels, four years of which were as Night Master latterly on Stena Seaspread. He spent several years as an Aberdeen Harbour Pilot during which he developed a successful non-marine related business. He subsequently returned to the marine field as a technical specialist and joined MAREX in the role of Marine Team Leader overseeing rig moves and other marine operations for major operators. He took over as General Manager/ Managing Director in March 2007.
Victor Gibson
Director and Senior Consultant

Victor Gibson, a well known Master Mariner, founded Marex in 1998 as a marine and safety consultancy. Victor had worked previously for the drilling giant Transocean and became involved in the development of safety cases after the Piper Alpha disaster and the subsequent Cullen enquiry. Vic has recently published his second book, The History of the Supply Ship. The first being Supply Ship Operations (now in its 3rd edition).
Sujit Viswanathan
Senior Marine Consultant
Sujit is an experienced Master Mariner having worked on various types of vessels during his sea service of over fourteen years, including as Master. He worked as a Fleet Quality Manager with A.P.Moller Singapore during which time he was involved in various vessel assurance matters including audits and inspections under the ISM and ISPS Code, ISO 14001 and various industry vetting requirements for different types of vessels. He has also developed and conducted enhanced safety, security and environmental training.
Since joining MAREX in June 2008, he has been regularly involved in vessel assurance matters for clients. These include Suitability Inspections, Marine Audits, routine vessel monitoring visits and CMID Inspections. He is also an OCIMF accredited OVID inspector. He has also been involved in developing technical documents such as SOPEPs, Emergency Response Manuals, Ballast Water Management Plans, Marine Operations Manuals and various other statutory and industry documents. He has, in addition to the regular marine consultancy work, also represented company clients as Marine Rep for various marine projects, HAZIDs, HAZOPs and rigmoves.
Craig MacKenzie
Senior Marine Consultant
Craig is an experienced Master Mariner with considerable offshore experience having served as OIM on various drilling units. In addition Craig has carried out many rig moves as Towmaster and been Warranty Surveyor for various marine projects. Periods of time has been spent with other leading consultancies both in the UK and the Middle East.
Iain Young
Safety and Risk Manager
After a seagoing career on tankers and subsequently the offshore industry Iain worked as a research scientist after gaining his MSc. Iain joined Marex as a senior consultant in 2009. Since then, he has progressed to Risk and Safety Manager and, as such, is responsible for project management, tenders and proposals. In addition to this, much of his current work includes providing client advice and support. Iain manages a team of risk specialists that develop offshore safety cases and associated risk studies including the facilitation of major hazard risk assessments on a global basis.
Neil Smeaton
Senior Safety and Risk Consultant
Neil Smeaton is a risk specialist with considerable experience in Safety and Risk related to the oil and gas industry. Neil joined MAREX in 2005 and carries out a range of safety engineering assignments in relation to the compilation of MODU safety cases, verification schemes, PFEER assessments and risk studies.
George Craigen
Senior Consultant
George Craigen is an experienced Master Mariner with many years seagoing experience including 10 years in the offshore industry during which time he commanded anchor-handlers, platform ships and diving vessels. His onshore experience has included acting as marine superintendent for offshore and logistics contractors and lecturing on nautical subjects at an educational establishment. Since joining MAREX he has been engaged in Safety Case compilation, technical authorship and risk assessment facilitating.
Neil Holland
Senior Consultant
After some years as a seafarer on general cargo, bulk carriers and tankers he became involved in the offshore sector working on dive support vessels, pipelayers, multi support semi subs and drilling rigs. He subsequently spent thirteen years with the Maritime < Coastguard Agency (MCA), latterly as Surveyor in Charge in Aberdeen. Shortly after being employed by MAREX as a marine consultant, Neil progressed to Operations Manager. Neil has subsequently taken early retirement and works part time for MAREX.
Christopher Brindley
Senior Safety and Risk Consultant
Chris is fully conversant with risks involved with fixed oil production platforms, FPSOs, drilling rigs and subsea systems from an operational and constructional perspective. Chris is also fully conversant with the associated risks of helicopter flights, marine supply, diving operations, weather, subsea ROV activity, ongoing combined operations (planning and management).
Barbara Edremoda
Safety and Risk Consultant
Barbara is a Safety and Risk Consultant, carrying out safety engineering assignments for offshore fixed and mobile installations. These include compilation of compartment studies, Major Accident Hazard Risk Assessment and completion of various Safety Case sections.
Chuma Ejimuda
Junior Consultant
Chuma is a Safety and Risk Consultant, carrying out safety engineering assignments for offshore fixed and mobile installations. He has carried out tasks related to compilation of safety cases, Major Accident Hazard Risk Assessment (MAHRA), Risk studies and completed various safety case sections.
Angelo Mavrogiannidis
Naval Architect
Angelos is a technical consultant, carrying out safety engineering assignments for offshore fixed and mobile installations. He has carried out tasks related to the re-issue of verification schemes, compilation of compartment studies, Major Accident Hazard Risk Assessment and completed various safety case sections.
