Ian McDougall is an experienced Master Mariner with an extensive range of skills and experience. He served on a variety of vessels engaged in worldwide trade before entering the offshore industry where he spent nine years on anchor-handlers, PSVs and diving vessels, four years of which were as Night Master latterly on Stena Seaspread. He spent several years as an Aberdeen Harbour Pilot during which he developed a successful non-marine related business. He subsequently returned to the marine field as a technical specialist and joined MAREX in the role of Marine Team Leader overseeing rig moves and other marine operations for major operators. He took over as General Manager/ Managing Director in March 2007.

Victor Gibson, a well known Master Mariner, founded Marex in 1998 as a marine and safety consultancy. Victor had worked previously for the drilling giant Transocean and became involved in the development of safety cases after the Piper Alpha disaster and the subsequent Cullen enquiry. Vic has recently published his second book, The History of the Supply Ship. The first being Supply Ship Operations (now in its 3rd edition).
Marex now comprises of a Risk Department and a Marine Department providing quality services to Operators, Drilling and Marine Contractors in the Oil & Gas and Shipping Industries. From its harbour side offices in Aberdeen, it coordinates a team of marine, risk and survey professionals working in the global oil and gas market, with growing interest from the Renewables and Decommissioning Sectors. Marex draws on the skills of its Risk and Marine Specialists comprising of master mariners, risk and marine engineers, naval architects and highly experienced mathematicians.
